Job Title: Communications & Social Media Intern

Reporting to: Executive Director

Summary:  CAVNET works for the upliftment of the poor and the disadvantaged communities in Upper West Region by increasing their access to resources and skills in a sustainable manner. It is currently implementing projects supported by donors in areas of education, environment, WASH and livelihood development. The organization is currently looking for a Communications & Social Media Intern to develop a communications strategy for the organization.

CAVNET is a forward-thinking, fast paced organization looking to hire an intern with strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape, including various social media websites. CAVNET is currently redesigning our website, and has launched a social media campaign. The intern hired for this position will need strong critical thinking skills in order to integrate into our vibrant and passionate team.


SALARY: Unpaid


The Communications & Social Media Intern will:

  • Contribute to website redesign project in various ways
  • Monitor and post on blogs, forums, and social networks
  • Online outreach and promotion using Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and more
  • Website and social media optimization
  • Generating ideas to gain more media coverage
  • Maintaining and updating a database of media contacts. Furthering good relations with key journalists, particularly environment and education correspondents.
  • Improve and develop communications materials for the organization such as brochure, website, annual report, DVD, poster etc.
  • Assist with the publication and distribution of our events listings statement to appropriate media.
  • Sourcing pictures and images for CAVNET’s publications (such as the Newsletters and Annual Review) and our website.

Technical skills, knowledge and experience

  • Knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software including Word, PowerPoint, and  Excel

Minimum Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or current student in communications, public relations or similar field
